Proud Dad

My daughter, Zuri, who’s in 1st grade, placed third in her school’s speech festival.

Nobody pushed her into it. She heard about the festival, decided she wanted to go for it, and prepared on her own, mostly. Ribbons aside, what I’m most proud of is her independence.

I’d like to take some credit—presenting and persuading are most of what I do at work—so maybe she picked up something from hearing me blather on in my home office. But the willingness to stand on a stage at seven years old and give it her all? That’s her mother’s quiet confidence showing up in a less quiet way.
